Short Hairstyles for Women

Short hairstyles for women have never been more popular. They are practical and easy to care for it in a world that is seeing major changes in the role of women.

Thinking about making a major change?  Do you feel like the times have changed but your sense of style hasn't?  One of the easiest ways to reinvent your look is by getting a great short haircut.  Short hairstyles for women are more popular than ever with some of Hollywood's hottest celebrities sporting a short 'do.  (Think Victoria Beckham or Sienna Miller.)  But before you go charging into a salon demanding that a hair stylist trim your tresses, there are a few things you can do to ensure your major metamorphosis is towards fabulousness and not an indefinite stretch of bad hair days.

First, you should open up a magazine or browse a website with short hairstyles for women.  This will help your hair stylist determine what it is you are looking for and what you like about the cut.  Too often women walk into a salon and say to their stylist, "Just do something different."  An adjective to describe the style you want to achieve may mean something entirely different to the stylist.  For example, you could say you want a "sporty" hairstyle, thinking something like the Katie Holmes has, and the stylist may think you mean "soccer mom."  A recipe for disaster!  Your stylist never knows what you actually want or envision unless you bring a picture.

Second, consider the pros and cons of having a short hairstyle in determining if it is right for you.  There are definitely a lot of  pros to having short hair.  It saves a lot of time having a cut thattakes only a few minutes to wash and wear, making it a great option for stylish women on the go. Short hair can be very versatile, and you have the option of using a variety of products and tools to create different looks, all with the same cut.  You can be classic and chic one day using a flat iron, and edgy with a dash of punk the next with some pomade.  Short hair can attractively frame the face, emphasize your best features, and make you appear taller.

Believe it or not, there are some cons to having a short hairstyle. The biggest one is obvious: if it turns out you are unhappy with the cut or determine that a short hairstyle just isn't you, it may take some time for your hair to grow back.  But, don't let this reason alone prevent you from taking the plunge, as your hair will grow back eventually, and you can be satisfied that you tried something different.  Also, shorter hair generally requires more frequent trips to the salon to maintain the style and shape.

If you find a picture of a style you like and you decide that the pros outweigh the cons, a short hairstyle could be for you!  Be sure to communicate with your stylist and don't be afraid to ask that he or she describe every step of the styling process for your new cut. You'll soon be one of the many women who embrace the short hairstyle and make a transformation into a new you.
